Here’s a story you won’t hear much on the news, unfortunately – about Brian Chontosh, a hero who saved the lives of his fellow Marines and faced danger with total disregard for his own safety. News outlets today are focused on the doom and gloom, the depressing and shocking elements, and never highlight amazing stories about amazing people often enough. From the Marines military site:
“He then directed his driver into the enemy trench, where he exited his vehicle and began to clear the trench with an M16A2 service rifle and 9 millimeter pistol. His ammunition depleted, Chontosh, with complete disregard for his safety, twice picked up discarded enemy rifles and continued his ferocious attack.”
Spread the word, don’t let the CNN’s of the world keep you in the dark to such brave actions.
Why won’t you hear of it in the news? It ran on the AP newswire, and was picked up by all the major TV networks. Try typing “google.com” into a browser, and then do a search for “Brian Chontosh” and you’ll see all the news outlets that ran the story as well as every right-wing propaganda mill on the planet, complaining about how it wasn’t in the news a good 3 days to a week after it WAS in the news.
I had done a search before I posted this up, because someone gave me a link to a site from an obscure columnist, and I wanted to see if there was any official information on the event. The best I found was the Marine site, which is as official as it can get. However, I didn’t see CNN.com, or any of the other major news sites have an article about it, mostly small-time blogs and military sites. Believe me, I checked.
Just because something is “picked up by the AP newswire” doesn’t mean that the major national news channels covered it. They ignored it.
